The age that a child is ready to start music lessons really depends on the child. Some children are ready as young as 3 or 4, others not until 6 or 7. In general, children are ready to learn when they are able to sit mostly still for several minutes at a time, follow instructions, treat their instrument respectfully, as well as to be able to identify their numbers and letters A-G.
Students need to have access to their instruments at least five (preferably six or seven) days a week, and this is easiest to attain if the instrument is in the student's home. If you are not ready to invest in buying an instrument, music stores offer instrument rentals. They can also help with finding the right-sized instrument for children. For piano lessons, a piano or keyboard with full-sized (preferably 88, weighted) keys, as well as a sustain pedal is a necessity. We are happy to offer recommendations on what type of instrument to get.
No. All sheet music and books will be an additional cost.
Yes! All students are invited and encouraged to perform in recitals, which will be offered twice a year.
If, after the first lesson, you decide that the teacher you are matched with turns out to not be a good fit, we will try to match you with a different teacher. If no other teachers are available, you will be refunded any unused lessons that have been paid.
Our instructors are professionals who have worked hard to attain their level of expertise. As such, they are worth compensating for their time. Therefore, we do not offer a free trial lesson. However, if you would like to try just one lesson before committing to an entire month, we are happy to set up a trial lesson at the regular rate. We will try our very best to match you with the teacher that will fit your needs, but if you are unhappy with our choice of teacher, please refer to the previous question.
